Events that lead to the occupation 1942 - 1945

The japanese had defeated the Malay peninsula in the battle of malaya. They wanted to occupy Singapore so as to gain greater control. The british then were not well prepared to defend Singapore and they had underestimated the japanese . Singapore had no choice but to surrender to the japansese after only a week since the battle had started . It was then february 1942.
